How to read the results
- Darker = better for faint structure (Milky Way dust lanes, dim satellites).
- Bortle / brightness: guidance layers; treat as relative ranking, not lab photometry.
- Distance trade-off: a slightly brighter closer site may beat a long unsafe drive.
Common mistakes
- Trusting a map pin without checking floodlights at the site.
- Ignoring Moon, a Bortle 3 site under full Moon looks washed out.
- Parking under a single bright security light that ruins an otherwise dark spot.
