Lunar eclipse · Friday 14 March 2025

The verdict for Guyana

It was visible from all of Guyana with the naked eye, all of totality: a red or coppery Moon.

Totality ran from 2:25 am to 3:31 am GYT; greatest at 2:58 am GYT, with the Moon halfway up in the west from Georgetown, in a dark sky.

Times shown in Guyana time (UTC-4, no daylight saving).

What was said, and what we found

Once in a lifetime moon eclipse in early hours Friday morning, March 14, 2025

A headline Stabroek News put on a reader’s eclipse notice; the writer called it misleading the next day. “Once in a lifetime moon eclipse in early hours Friday morning, March 14, 2025”, published 10 March 2025. Read the source, fetched 14 October 2026.

The headline is wrong. A total eclipse of the Moon can be seen from Guyana every few years. The next with all of totality above Georgetown's horizon: 25 June 2029 (greatest at 11:22 pm GYT) and 20 December 2029 (greatest at 6:41 pm GYT).
