What we can run

• School STEM sessions

  Primary and secondary schools

  A classroom talk on the Sun, Moon, planets and seasons, linked to the free Learn lessons, with a telescope demonstration if the weather allows.

• Stargazing evenings

  Community groups and families

  Find constellations, planets and the Moon with the naked eye, binoculars and telescopes. Planned around a dark, moonless evening.

• Astrophotography basics

  Beginners with a camera or phone

  Camera settings, focusing on stars, tripods and simple processing, then practice under the night sky.

• Safe solar viewing

  Schools and the public

  See sunspots through telescopes fitted with certified front-mounted solar filters, and make pinhole projectors. Supervised the whole time.

Teaching CSEC Integrated Science? The Teacher Page for CSEC lists the five astronomy objectives (SO 1.1 to 1.5), each with a free lesson, video and tool, and four class sheets to print with real dates for Guyana. It is mapped to the objectives, not endorsed by CXC or the Ministry of Education. A session can follow it.

Public dates

No public sessions are scheduled right now. Sessions are arranged on request, so email us with a few possible dates. The Sky Events page shows which evenings will be dark and moonless.

How to book

1. Email [email protected] with the session type, two or three possible dates, the location, and how many people will come and their ages.
2. We reply to confirm availability, cost (if any), and what you need to prepare.
3. For evening sessions we check the weather forecast the day before and reschedule if it's cloudy.

Safeguarding for schools and young people

• Sessions for under-18s run with school staff or a parent or guardian present at all times.
• The school or organiser collects any parental consent. We never ask children for their contact details.
• We only photograph participants with written consent from a parent or guardian. Photos of children are never shared without it.
• Evening sessions start and finish at times agreed with the organiser, at a venue they have approved.
• Safeguarding concerns can be raised with the session lead or by email to [email protected].

Sun safety

Never look at the Sun directly or through any optics without a certified solar filter fitted securely over the front. In solar sessions every telescope has a front-mounted solar filter that we check before use, and an adult supervises each instrument. Read more in our Sun-safety guidance.
