Is the 2 August 2027 total solar eclipse visible from Guyana?

Solar eclipse · Monday 2 August 2027

The verdict for Guyana

Not in reach from Guyana: from anywhere in the country the Moon misses the Sun completely.

The next solar eclipse from Guyana: 26 January 2028, a partial eclipse with 70% of the Sun covered at Georgetown.

Times shown in Guyana time (UTC-4, no daylight saving).

Eye safety

Never look straight at the Sun, at any moment of a partial eclipse, without eclipse glasses or a hand-held solar viewer made to the ISO 12312-2 standard. Sunglasses, smoked glass, exposed film and phone screens do not protect your eyes. Never look through binoculars, a telescope or a camera without a solar filter fitted to the front, even while wearing eclipse glasses. A pinhole projection is safe: stand with your back to the Sun and look at the image on a card, never through the hole. Supervise children.

What was said, and what we found

On that day, complete darkness would fall on a large portion of the world for almost six minutes. There would be no daylight, no sunlight, just silence, darkness, and an unusual peace.

A video shared on Facebook in July 2025, quoted by Soch Fact Check. “No ‘terrifying solar eclipse’ to occur in August 2025 nor will world ‘go dark’”, published 4 August 2025. Read the source, fetched 14 October 2026.

The claim is wrong. A total eclipse is dark only inside a narrow path, 258 km wide at greatest eclipse by NASA's figures, and this one is on 2 August 2027, not 2 August 2025. From Guyana the Moon does not cover any of the Sun that day: at greatest eclipse, 6:06 am GYT, the Sun is only 4° up at Georgetown and the day goes on as normal.
