Solar eclipse · Wednesday 26 January 2028
Visible from all of Guyana as a partial eclipse, with eclipse glasses or a pinhole projection: 64% of the Sun covered at Mabaruma to 79% at Aishalton.
At Georgetown it begins at 8:54 am GYT, is greatest at 10:53 am GYT with the Sun halfway up in the south-east, and ends at 12:56 pm GYT.
Times shown in Guyana time (UTC-4, no daylight saving).
Never look straight at the Sun, at any moment of a partial eclipse, without eclipse glasses or a hand-held solar viewer made to the ISO 12312-2 standard. Sunglasses, smoked glass, exposed film and phone screens do not protect your eyes. Never look through binoculars, a telescope or a camera without a solar filter fitted to the front, even while wearing eclipse glasses. A pinhole projection is safe: stand with your back to the Sun and look at the image on a card, never through the hole. Supervise children.
